Prevent Your Eyes from Hurting when Using Onions

Prevent Your Eyes from Hurting when Using Onions

Onions! They are enemies to the eyes, and yet, no one knows how to fix the problem! You've fallen on the right place because by reading this, you will learn how to prevent your eyes from hurting when you chop onions.

1
Make sure that you wash your face before cutting onions to prevent much pain. Onion will cause more discomfort on a dry face than a wet face.
2
When the onions start hurting your eyes a little bit, go to the sink nearest to you and turn on the hot water. Remember, don't let the water be too hot, because you will be using it.
3
Gently apply medium hot water to your open eyes. It might hurt more in the next 7 to 9 seconds, but after that you won't feel any more pain.
4
When done, go wash your face again.
TIPS:

Tips

  • If you want, use swimming goggles to prevent the onion smell coming to your eyes, another good way.
  • A great tip is to use your exhaust fan to suck up the fumes from the onion. Turn your rangehood/exhaust fan up as high as possible, and then cut the onions right next to it (or directly under it, if possible). The fumes will be sucked up and away from your eyeballs.
 WARNINGS:

Warnings

  • Don't put too hot water in the eyes, it will hurt too much.
